So I ordered my m17x r3 with a 580m video card and I'm for sure getting another external monitor to hook up to it as my current monitor isn't high enough resolution .

Then I I had a thought about setting up a dual monitor set up using two external monitors. Is it possible with that graphics card or not so much?

Is there anything else that I would need to make this work, besides the monitors obviously.

Don't double post threads on the same topic. The 580m should be able to do a dual monitor setup.

Two external monitors? The only ones that I know that do that are the Dell M6x00 class workstations - with the docking station attached.

The M17x R3 has VGA, HDMI and Mini-displayport so you can theoretically out 3 additional monitors.

the number of ports has nothing to do with how many monitors it can drive. its entirely possible that the HDMI port is disabled when the mini-DP is plugged in and vice-versa because of the internal circuitry of GPU.

not saying this is the case in this case, but it is the case alot of the time.

It would be sad if the M17x r3 couldn't do 2 monitors because those tiny sony vaio z2's can do 3 externals
