    Dual-Core i7 vs. Quad-Core i7 for Digital Art & Photo Editing

    I ended up ordering an HP ZBook x2 G4 with an i7 dual-core processor. I will be doing digital art, photo editing, and web browsing 95% of the time. Maybe once every 6 months I may have some light video editing to do, but that's about it. Will I be fine with the dual-core version (it does have the discrete GPU) or will I need/gain a huge performance boost from the quad-core version? I mostly use the Adobe Creative Suite and I will be trying/using other digital painting programs as well.

    I'm just not sure if the extra $400+ for a quad-core will end up being diminishing returns on my investment, or if it really is worth the extra money. The dual-core processor does have a 2.9 GHz clock verses the 1.9 GHz clock of the quad-core machine. The dual-core also supports hyper-threading, so it has 2 "virtual" cores giving me 4 total "cores."

    Never mind. I decided to spend the extra money for the quad-core version. I'm gonna have this thing as my main PC for at least a few years, so I want to make sure I future-proof it as much as possible. Even if 2 cores are fine for now, in a year or two things could change and those extra 2 cores could become very beneficial.

    You would especially notice the difference if you were using a program like DXO Photolab2 or, perhaps Lightroom, and processing a large number of photos in a batch. You made a good decision.
