I am just a little curious. Because of multiple cores is the impact of clock speed bigger? For example would the performance from 1.0ghz dual core to 2.0ghz dual core be a bigger improvement than 1.0 to 2.0 single core?

Yes, in multithreaded applications, and multitasking.

Not only are you needing to compare the increase in clock speed but the architecture of the CPU as well. Clock for clock, some dual core CPU's are faster than other's due to the improvements in architecture, additional instructions, increases in cache/fsb speed, natural improvement of manufacturing process which occurs over time, die shrinks, etc.
