I recently bought a new SSD for my laptop, I don't want to do a clean install cause I only have a Windows 7 upgrade disc, I don't have the full version, so is it okay to use a hard drive duplication software (such as Acronis True Image Home) and copy everything on my hard drive to the new SSD, would that work?
Any input would be appreciated![]()

upgrade disk should be able to do a clean install just as well.
but yes, something like acronis can do it. -
Thanks for your input -
I used Acronis Migrate Easy for cloning recently and it performed to my expectation.

It doesn't matter.... My product key is an upgrade key as well. I upgraded, with a clean install and was not asked for any other key except for the upgrade key.
I then had to do it again and it worked once again, never asking for the Vista key and with no trace of Vista in my system.
The system sends information to MS about the machine your new Win7 is installed on. So....when you re-install with a new clean copy, it will work fine so long as you are re-installing/activating it on the same system.
I haven't heard of any actual occurrences but, apparently MS shuts the key down once you try to switch to a different system configuration on activation.
Also...the activation allows for a slight change or upgrade in hardware such as hd to ssd... -

the product key will work. no old disk is required at all. just install and activate. if not, report back here, there are ways around it. but so far, it always worked.

I would advise doing a clean install. Contrary to popular opinion, you CAN do a clean install using a Windows 7/Vista upgrade disk. I recently did a "double install" on my Intel X-25 G2 SSD, upgrading from an old 160GB hard drive with Windows Vista.

same here worked for me to. Did it over the weekend on my cousin's sony laptop. -
