Hi I have owned my laptop ( inspiron 1520 ) for 2 years now. I noticed that slowly battery capacity was fading but now in the past few weeks it has gone from being able to run for at least still 45 min on a charge to holding just 20 worth of power (and Linux says it's capacity is only 8.9%). I pretty sure there's no miraculous cure for this so far as I've read on the Internet. I'm currently not willing to get a new system so a battery upgrade is my only option. The only problem is Dell only still sells the 6 not 9 cells.

I would appreciate any info in finding the cheapest 9 cell for my laptop. Also does it matter if i don't use dell's batteries?

    Thx for any help.

Try E-Bay. It has a huge list of batteries of all sizes and manufacturers. The prices look to be some of the cheapest I've seen. One other poster had a really good suggestion -- that is not to buy from a seller out of the U.S. (especially not from Asia) because if you have to return your battery (or any other item you buy) it is sometimes very difficult to send back, and shipping charges can be expensive sending items across the globe.

Make sure the online seller is offering a genuine Dell battery; Chinese knock-offs and their ilk are prone to either not working at all or not providing the specified capacity.

Buy at the mall or just call the shop where you purchased it and ask for a warranty or maybe a refund or an RMA
