P.S SMART info cannot be displayed by hdtunes for this harddrive.

Is that a boot drive or secondary drive? Looks normal if there might be background programs accessing the drive.

Can't you use another utility to check for SMART data like crystal disk info or WD's own drive testing utility?

That is a fresh install of windows 7 with nothing running during benchmarking. However, the access time is very high.

Did you try a full error scan and see if it finds any bad sectors?

    HDTUNE:
1 bad sector, but scanning speed is around 500kb/s around the point where hdtune shows low performance.

Run CMD has an admin and run chkdsk /r (target drive):

It sounds like indexing might be utilizing the hard drive. As for the SMART diagnostics, try using the Intel SSD Toolbox. SMART checks with that program work with more than just Intel's drives.

I don't think hdtune will read out any smart data. Even WD's own diagnostic utility fails to read SMART data.

Its not indexing for sure because i turned that service off when doing benchmark.

As for running chkdisk, it has been over 4 hrs, still haven't finished.

I would try CrystalDiskInfo, I have a similar drive to yours on my T61 and it reads SMART data fine so it could be worth a shot.

If it's taking hours and hours for chkdsk to run, likely a bad hard drive, this is precisely the reason I only buy SSDs now..

This laptop used to have an intel 320 120gb ssd until it is sent in for repair. I had to replace it with original hard drive that came with this machine. It is a painful experience going back to hdd from an ssd.
