Why no Intel Mobile Chipset supports ECC? What would happen if there is an error? Would the error slip by undetected?

ECC memory is not supported by laptop chipsets, cause its really not needed.
ECC is just an onboard hardware based error check, on startup, which checks the memory for errors.
ECC memory is common in workstation and server environments, where stability is the highest priority.
If you notice, ECC memory cards and the motherboards which can utilize ecc, are very expensive, so its not really an option for notebooks, since the idea is to make them cheaper.
Those $10 1gb ddr2 memory cards would be about $100-150 if they had ecc controllers on them

And also for those of us with lower stability needs I believe get increased performance without? So pay more for less for us average Joe's? I don't want it.
