Hi guys, i just bought myself a eee pc 4g and recently , purchased a DDR2 667MHZ PC-5300 SODIMM off ebay. The pins seems to connect to the laptop perfectly. I see no problem at all. After i replaced the ram (to 2gb) The eee pc starts normally but whenever it tries to load windows xp , it shows a windows blue screen that flashes for 0.5 second and restarts. Windows XP will not load in any way (safe or normal).

I get this error when attempting to re-install winxp (loading the winxp pro cd blue screen)
    STOP:c0000221 Unknown Hard Error
    \SystemRoot\System32\ntdll.dll

Usually, it ask you what you wanna do with windows , in the BIOS ,it shows 2gb in the memory (2046MB if i remember well)...On the label, it says PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM and on the bill it says 2GB PC5300 / PC 5400 667mhz DDR2 Certified Sodimmm Notebook memory. Using the 512mb works normally.

Please help, this really sucks , i thought i could improve the performance...The ram is compatible no?? What's wrong?? thank you.
Thank you for your time and effort.

It's possible that it is defective RAM or incompatible RAM.
First thing you might do is testing RAM by using Memtest--mostly linux distro installation CD have it. You will see whether it's RAM or compatible problem.

I'm typing on Eee with 2GB RAM :p

That does sound like dodgy ram, the memtest idea is good. Memtest is available on the ultimate boot CD.

Or, it could be a defective XP install Disk.

Wait a sec, I once heard that the 4GB EEE version without the web cam can´t be upgraded to 2GB ram. What version is your laptop, man?

It could be bad memory but here is a link to the MS support document on this error says you have a corrupt file. Says you can Reinstall Windows it also says if you have another copy you can replace file, here is a link to that file. If this does not work you may have a hardware problem. And that would go back to bad RAM. Replacing the DLL seems easiest to give a try.

Looks like you are correct "The 4G Surf uses socketed RAM but some revisions do not have a door to access the slot" Wikki. But he does not mention surf and if he replaced the RAM it is not socketed so don't think it comes into play in this situation. ;)
