If you're planning on upgrading to Intel's Haswell platform later this year, you may want to wait for the first round of chips to clear shelves before taking the plunge. Hardware.info claims to have spoken with a "reliable source" who says the next-generation processors have a small issue with USB 3.0.

I'm actually surprised there isn't more talk of this bug?!
I cancelled my Haswell order until its cleared up...
Not a critical bug, but a nuisance none the less.

Are you saying there's a fault embedded in the silicon? Or that this bug can be corrected through software/drivers?

It's a silicon issue.

Intel mentioned about the bug at least several weeks ago.
Oh well. AMD doesn't have any competitive offerings so it doesn't really matter if customers are irritated by some hardware bugs... -
No biggie for me

Gigabyte has reported not too long ago that its fixable by a Microsoft patch, while Tomshardware said that the U and Y series aren't even affected at all. -

As the bug involves 'sleep' mode (which I've used only in test mode for almost two decades...), this is fairly unimportant to me in the here and now.
On the other hand, considering the 'always on' nature of Haswell and forward platforms, this may be more than a nuisance for some (more 'consumer' oriented) users.
Either way, as the new C2 steppings will be available after July 31, 2013 - it is an easy enough 'fix' to wait for... though harder to know if the particular system you'll be picking up will have a C1 or C2 stepping. -
Wait, so is this fixed or is it not ? I'm considering getting the new Haswell Envy 15 from HP .
Is haswell worth waiting for? Also, comparison. : SuggestALaptop
Full of confusion, the date on the pdf/paper says it isn't even out yet but people are saying they fixed it last month ? -

No, it will be fixed on July 31, 2013 - but what you actually get in your hands will still be luck of the draw (it may be the original C1 stepping or not...) for at least a few weeks/months yet (depending how many were made and how popular or unpopular the specific model you get is...).

Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 update rollup: March 2013
Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 update rollup: April 2013
Always-on is only for the Ultrabooks and Tablets, aka U and Y. -
Its a hardware issue, and can not be corrected with a software update.
Nothing in those roll-ups outlines the Haswell USB issue. -
Does anyone know if there is an update on this bug? Has the C2 stepping been introduced to OEM's yet?
-
For future reference, in case anyone does run into this issue, it looks like some usb 3.0 drives aren't affected. Here's a test of 22 drives: 33 Haswell motherboard group test: 26x Z87, 4x H87 and 3x B85 - The USB issue: definitely there | Hardware.Info United States.

..I kind of suspect the same problem is there on pretty much all IB and SB boards as well, though..

nipsen, is that based on experience, or just a hunch?
I normally turn off Hibernation and Sleep options less than a minute after a clean Windows install so can't say I've run into this - but will be good to know if clients report/complain about this issue on the newer and/or older chipsets. -
What an harmless bug. Who cares.

Well, I've seen it before, that's all. And a few examples can mean nothing, so I don't know.
But I've never heard of an integrated component function suddenly sprouting a hardware bug after a long time without any issues. So I wouldn't be extremely surprised if the same thing exists on the other systems.
And this can be a bit nasty, even if you're just having pictures you edit on an external device, or something like that. If you are running write-operations and then cut the power - say, you're just closing the lid while editing. Then when the program opens again, the file you have isn't current, and the file on the usb device could have been corrupted. So yeah, it's possible to screw up with this.
Or, for example, if you're booting from a usb device and suspend while the boot runs, it probably means you're never going to properly "unsuspend" the laptop again. Which, I remember, is a common but very strange bug that I've seen before, that people have serious difficulty tracing to one source. Sometimes it even happens variably on the same usb device.
Frankly wouldn't surprise me if all the "oops, bus disconnected for a short moment but mysteriously recovered, more or less" bugs happen to come from this as well. But.. of course, difficult to say for certain. Could be anything, obviously. Aliens.
Early Haswell processors will reportedly have a USB 3.0 bug
