After being so close to getting an Envy 14 with its Radiance display, I've been looking for another similar laptop. Since nothing that I found in the 14" size has a resolution better than 1366 x 768 with specs geared towards being a good multimedia laptop, I thought about getting something like the upcoming Asus N43SN and installing a 1600 x 900 display on it. Having never done any type of hardware modification on laptops though, I was just wondering how difficult doing this would be. Are there any good step by step tutorials on how to do this kind of modification? Can something be easily messed up and leave the laptop inoperable? Does doing something like this void the warranty?

    1) of course it voids the warranty.
    2) if the N43 is originally 768p, it's more or less impossible to install a 900p monitor in because connectors won't be the same.

    1. It is quite easy.

    2. It is quite possible a 1600x900 screen will work. Just find a 1600x900 with the same screen connector and your good.

I wouldn't listen to the above poster, it is quote possible to find a compatible screen.

Also, remember you can buy a Sony Vaio CW(like the one in my sig), with i5, 1600x900, and GT 330m, for around $950 refurbished or $800 used.

the problem with the sony option is the lack of a good gpu, the ones that come with the n43 are the gt 540m and the gt 550m which are better than the poor gt 330m, have I said that the gt 300m middle range is terrible? and that the gts 360m fails to impress? so yeah the entire gt 300m line is...

It may not void the warranty.

I know on dell notebooks you are allowed to replace any part, they even provide the service manuals. And aslong as you don't break anything its all good. Also the wont provide support for the replacement part if it a non-dell part.

OP you may want to check out the Dell xps 14, although it comes with a fairly average 768p display, alot of people have been replacing the screen themselves with a rather nice 1600x900p screen.

I have an N43 and would also like to replace the screen.
The highest resolution for a 14'' screen I have found is a 1440x900 res, but that is on a 14.1'' display.
I am wondering whether it would be compatible installation wise, as the size difference is so minute.
