Peace of mind knowing not a lot of realestate being wasted by a lame bezel.. Something more notebook makers should be doing. For example, a 13.3" Macbook has enough room for a 14" inch lcd..

I think looks is a plus, but I think the main beneifit of it is...DUST.

Without an edge to edge display I noticed that a lot of dust collects on the bezel and the screen.

Not only this, but an edge to edge display protects the actual LCD and makes it easier to clean.

Overall, its just better if you can stand the glossiness. I'm not sure why its taken so long for manufacturers to adopt this though.

It also functions as a high gloss mirror for your girlfriend.

    Wait...

yes and one day that will save your life, the real reason they invented high gloss screens is so while your typing you can see ninja's trying sneak up behind you to kill you. Technology is a beautiful thing.

Poor ninja's first it was the light bulb, now the gloss screens, life is getting hard.

funny, never really heard that term (i heard frameless screens, though). so i googled it up, and this post, as new as it is, resulted in search result 4 and 5.. fun.

but if it's the frameless thing that i guess it is, then i personally think it's quite ugly, and against it's naming. as it still has a frame. i'd like to see a frameless screen, but really frameless. my first notebook had a 4mm border. nowadays 1 - 2cm are quite standard. i think this is very bad.

There is no particular benefit that I can see other than asethetics, and they certainly are not 'edge to edge'; it is a strange term to use for them. They still have a bezel like any other screen.

A disadvantage is that I have seen problems with some models where dust/dirt particles find their way between the screen and the top layer of glass/plastic.

    What is the benefit? Looks.

I don't get your point. The 13" Unibody Macbook has an edge-to-edge display AND a large bezel.

You're right, Phil.. I misunderstood what edge-to-edge meant.. I thought that it meant a very thin bezel around an LCD.. but come to find out, it's just the all-glass covering thing they are doing these days.
