I am getting a new laptop. I am going to use the SSD (Intel 320) from my previous laptop and clean install Windows 7. Do I need to erase/wipe the SSD before installing? If so, ho do I do that? I just read somewhere that the performance of an SSD drops if the data is not properly erased. Thanks.

no need to. when you do the formatting on the clean install, trim should take care of everything.

no do a quick format before restoring an image. except if you use the windows backup tool and it's image restoration tool, then it should be fine.
you need to trigger a full-disk trim in any way. which you can at installation time (quick format the full disk), or afterwards with some trim-trigger tool or something.
i'd do the clean format, and then restore the image. or something.
maybe someone else has some idea. -
Thank you All. How do I trim-trigger? Will initializing the Intel Toolbox trigger TRIM?

I specified with the format quick command a different volume name than the one contained in the image and it was changed to the one from the image.
Therefore I think the format quick trick does not work for me.
Erase/wipe SSD before re-installing?
