Hi, I m thinking of buying a esata hard drive enclosure. However, my laptop doesn't have a sata/esata port. What do I need to do in order to use the esata connection? Thanks.

If you have an Express Card slot or a PCMCIA card slot, you can get an adapter.

You can get a PCMCIA or ExpressCard adapter. NewEgg sells them.

Thanks, are there any difference be the express card or the PCMCIA card? From the picture I can't really tell the difference. I have a Dell M90 btw.

Expresscard is newer than PCMCIA and looks like either a rectangle with a cutout in it, or a very thin rectangle, whereas the PCMCIA card is a wider rectangle. Kind of confusing, I know, but the navigation pane on the newegg site listed above has a choice for either Expresscard or PCMCIA.

so if i have a express card slot, can I still use the PCMCIA card?

I think you have to get the Express Card adapter.

Unfortunately, the two are not inter-changeable.

Look at Newegg, there are eSATA external enclosure bundles that comes with an expresscard or PCMCIA.

I have pretty much looked at every 3.5' enclosure and they only have a esata bracket. Maybe I ll just stick with the USB.
