    Any suggestions?

a friend of mine reformatted my hard drive a while back and for some reason it does not recognize my Ethernet cable being plugged in.

anyway.. its an HP and all i need is the drivers.

where do i go in the pc to find out models, numbers etc to find out what drivers i need.

i am not knowledgeable when it comes to this stuff so a step by step process would be appreciated.

As long as the hard drive he formatted is the original one that came with your laptop, then there should be a recovery partition. Providing that he didn't reformat that partition as well, your drivers, apps, and software should be in a folder in that partition.

Look at the bottom of the laptop. There should be a sticker that gives you the notebook's model number, serial number, and other information. The model number is what you will need when you go to HP's site to download your ethernet drivers.
