As some of you may know, Intel launched their Core i7 980X EE this week and this has the desktop world buzzing. (6 processing cores, 32nm, etc.) But supposedly some of these are making its way into laptops!

Impressive. I wonder how long it will be until anyone at NBR gets one of these? Looking at you, Mutant Tractor, you were the one who started the petition for support for the 980X.

For those "xtreme systems" guys that will be breaking benchmark records (putting these things under liquid nitrogen) or for the extreme folding enthusiast this is quite a nice purchase.

But all the nehalem chips are great and will definitely be good at least until Intel is expected to roll out another significant microarchitecture redesign with the Haswell chips in 2011/2012.

I think it's just the regular D900F chassis, which means 3 memory slots, and 3 (+1) HDD slots. They advertise 4, because they swap out the ODD for another HDD slot (that's the +1), and I think they're expecting to be able to use 8 GB SODIMMs for the 24 GB of memory.

It is great news that the Clevo D900F will probably suport the Core i7 980X Extreme Edition, however, I would take it with a grain of salt, it is Eurocom advertising this information.

For past and recent deeds, Eurocom has been known for advertising upgrades, specs, etc... that they have no standing grounds for or with no proof to back it up, in order to attract more customers to buy from them.

If the Core i7 980X Extreme Edition made it into the Clevo D900F, would it be officially supported by Clevo?, what do you guys think?

On the other hand, I would not recommend Eurocom to anyone, there is even a thread concerning Eurocom and many motives that will make you think twice before purchasing from them, said thread can be found in the form of a sticky called "Fair and Legal Business Practices", in the Sager and Clevo forum in NotebookReview.

Note: I am not biased against or in favor of Eurocom or any other Clevo resellers, in fact, my opinion is impartial and merely informative for any potential customers that think to buy from Eurocom.

I do agree with you. From what i heard Eurocom might sometimes not be reliable and info should be taken with a pinch of salt but this is good news anyways... quite awesome specs... i just hope the cooling system is up to the task...

I have been owner of a Clevo D901C, branded by Sager as a NP9262 and purchased from Xotic PC for 2 years already, and it is definitely not junk.

The laptop is still working like a champ after all of this time and it has taken quite a lot of beating, literally, working and playing on it for 8 continuous hours and longer.

It has been subject to massive overclocking, overvolting and very high temperatures (100+ C, fans and heatsinks were clogged) on the graphics cards, both are working just fine:

Massive overclock certified by GPU-Z. (8800m GTX SLi)

    3DMark 2006 with said clocks.

    3DMark Vantage with said clocks.

Said tests and overclocking were done on 2008.

The fans are loud, only if you have them on Max. Potency (Fn + 1) all the time like I do.

Not all Clevo computers are "junk", saying so is generalizing individual cases and blemishing the entirety of the brand.

Yeah I don't know where you got that Ktron quote from, but I certainly don't take that with a grian of salt, as he's one of the most respected members of the board. I always thought Clevo made good computers, so to hear him say that bothers me quite a bit. I definitely want to hear it elaborated on...

I'm sure it was a post that was deleted. It bothers me as well, I was considering a W870CU, but now I know to always heavily research what I am going to buy, and to always research stuff I don't know about before I post.

You may want to visit this thread to get more elaborated information on K-TRON's opinions, his reasons to dislike and not recommend Clevo are very valid, I would have felt that way myself too had it happened to me.

However, I do not condone blaming the entire brand for an issue with the Clevo D900K motherboard and issues with distributor Voodoo, times change, I would simply not recommend nor buy any products from Clevo.

The noisy fan claims are for the W870CU and W860CU. The D900F is reported as being exceptionally quiet, to the point where many users had to double-check to see if the fans were even on.

32nm hex core = heat output of 45nm Quad core.

So this is not surprising, it should be bios update + swap in.

It's actually supposed to use a bit less power at load and half the power at idle.

Real world it's ever so slightly more power (but the variations in power consumption between different chips of the same model could account for these differences) so about the same.

You are right about the idle consumption though.
