I was just wondering if there exists fans you can just plug in that space instead of an optical, or would that just be ridiculous and not even helpful at all, since that area is nearly completely walled off from the rest of the interior anyways?
When I learned that you can put a battery in there, just started thinking what else.

I have done a lot of research for cooling notebooks, but I have never seen a type of fan which goes in the optical bay. You might want to check the Cooling Guide for ways to cool your notebook though.

It would be possible. The drive bay connector is not always the same so it would be hard to find a universal solution. I think the main reason why it is not done is because most gameing laptops that would benefit from the cooling do not have removable dvd/cd drives. It is mostly in business models that dont get too hot anyway where you can remove the cd drive and swap it for something else.

I have a fan in that area, but its just a normal 90cm fan and its zip tied up, to blow on my pwmic's and also my chipset.

Well, my current notebook is really cool actually. I was thinking for the one that will be here friday- same speed, but core2duo in 14.1" case instead of pentium m in 15.4".
After getting in on the cpu temp thread, I noticed how much hotter the c2d processors are compared to mine, and I really hate hot palm rests. Just figured I'd check to see if a simple plug in fan existed... don't think I'll rigging anything crazy up right away...
Ever heard of a fan in the optical bay?
