Could someone help me with a question I have? I had a radeon 6990m in my clevo p150hm, and the card died. Safe mode was still possible, and I thought I had nothing left to lose, until I learned of the oven-baking method, and the importance of safe mode. Suffice to say, it didn't work, and now I get nothing. If the card was dying before, it's certainly dead now.
I would like to change the card, but flashing it, installing the driver's etc. are making me ponder. Will replacing the dead card one with one that does not currently have the proper drivers still allow the computer to to boot, even to safe mode to allow driver installation? And anything else that I should ask but aren't?
I would like to switch to an equivalent nvidia, or possibly upgrade, but not if after buying the card I need a working computer to allow my inoperable computer to work -_-

Yes, all video cards work with the standard VGA driver that Windows will fall back to if it can't find the driver.
Explain replacing a GPU please?
