I am getting the dv6t quad edition. Should I get the Hybird Hard Drive for 50 more bucks? I am going to use laptop for some gaming (starcraft 2 and diablo 3), video editing, schoolwork, etc. What are the pros and cons of the hybrid hard drive? It will be 750 GB 7200 rpm Hybrid Hard Drive. I googled it and I am still confused, can someone simplify and try to explain it to me, thanks.

Anandtech does a better job of explaining it than i could so here's the review of the 750GB: AnandTech - Seagate 2nd Generation Momentus XT (750GB) Hybrid HDD Review. How the drive works is explained on the first page of the review.
Whether the drive is worth it to you is something you'll have to decide depending on your usage patterns. -

There are cons vs a SSD, but compared to a normal platter HDD, i don't really see any other cons than the price. Note that the writes to the drive will not be affected by the NAND cache and it will take a couple of times launching windows and your most used programs for the drive to get read performance close to that of a SSD.

yea its either a HDD or the hybrid, way too much money for the SSD and i need space for videos and pictures. Thanks for the help.

If you haven't already, consider a small SSD for your boot / windows / apps drive and a hard drive for storage. If you have an optical drive (DVD or Blu-Ray) you can swap it out for an hdd adapter. This way you can buy a 60GB SSD for Windows and apps, and the hard drive for storage and games. Best of both worlds.

A good idea that was never developed enough to pay off. Too bad.

So its not possible to put the OS on the 8gb SSD side and everything else on the HDD part? Like you cant separate them as two drives?
-
No. The 8GB SSD is an internal cache that the hard drive manages using some sort of algorithm to determine what it keeps in there for fast access.
-
or you can just create a ramdisk that light speed faster then a SSD. There's software that does exactly what the hybrid drive does, "manages using some sort of algorithm to determine what it keeps in there for fast access".
Explain the Hybrid Hard Drive?
