Probably beating a dead horse here, by mentioning those two processors. Nevertheless I'd like to be able to understand the difference better. From what the little information I've managed to salvage, my understanding is that P9700 has less power consumption, but t9600 has a little bit better performance. Is it true? Does anybody have actual benchmark figures for those two processors? Why is the power consumption should concern me at all aside from a small electricity bill each month? Is there any other difference between those two processors?

    performance should be identical.

    35W vs 28W?

    My hair dryer uses 1500W..

Get the cheaper one. Undervolt it yourself and the difference between the two processors are gone.

Thanks for the fast responses! I already have a little bit of experience in undervolting with rmclock, so I'll just save myself 35$ and buy t9600.

So you are saying it's worth buying p9700 for extra 35$ in the case I need a little longer battery life? But if lets say I'm not concerned about the battery life, I can go ahead and buy the cheaper one? The performance is identical. Correct?

You can undervolt the T9600 to save power, but then again, you can undervolt the p9700 to save (more?) power. If you don't care about battery life at all, get the T9600. Performance is identical

With P9700 battery life would be 5 minutes longer and machine would run few degree cooler.

well..... 5 mins of battery life each time wouldn't be worth 35 bucks extra....

    T9600 has a TDP of 35W. P9700 has a TDP of 25W.

Temperature will be MUCH lower under full load. At idle the difference will be minimal.

Battery life will definitely be improved although I can't really quantify, since the difference in power consumption between the two will be much greater under load than it would be when idle.

If you use the laptop on your lap, and you wanna have kids in the future... pay the extra $35, it's well worth it ;)

Performance is identical. The P9600 just runs at a lower voltage but gives you the same performance.
