I have a Transcend 32 GB Express Card SSD ...

Can I load specific applications ( say Office 2003 ) on that card and then move the card from notebook to notebook ?

What say you ? References ?

    Thanks,

    kvnb

Negative, the programs install notes into a computers registry. Without that it will not work. You will have to install office on each machine. I would recommend going with Open Office, not microsofts.

I have a similar question. Can you run windows off of one and use SSD for windows and some files and your computer's main HDD for other files?

If your computers bios supports booting off such devies then yes you can do it this way. There are a few articles around on booting off of a USB Flash drive also. Again, your BIOS has to support booting off a device like that. Most newer BIOS's do support it, just check and make sure. There should be a page in the BIOS that will allow you to change the boot order and it will show up your Express CARD SSD or the USB Flash drive.

You could do it that way, install windows to the SSD and then office to it as well. You would just have to go into the BIOS on the computer you were going to use it on and set it to boot from that device.

    Hope that helps.

That's pretty cool. I'm pretty sure my bios can do that. Now I just have to wait awhile until the prices drop on those SSD cards.

    Thanks for the reply ....

Booting Vista & programs off the express card is an interesting approach .... problem is with ciode bloat, 32 Gb may not be enough ..... However, Trasncend's price is down from $500 + to under $300 .... so a 64 GB card may soon be available.....

On the Open Office issue, I do a lot of documents using Math Type ( formats mathematical symbols ) and am not sure if MS Office and/or WordPerfect docs with these symbols would be supported in Open Office ( ? )

Why? It may be free but, MS Office has many features openoffice doesn't, hence the price.
