I'm looking to make my new Asus W3J a multimedia machine, but I'm wondering how I can make the TV viewing aspect work.
I have heard different things about all different ideas, but i dont yet know what will work.
At Circuit City they offer USB 2.0 TV Tuners but I dont know if the lack of speed in USB will affect video quality. Also, I don't believe those TV Tuners have DVR capabilities.
I have also read about the new expresscard tuners coming out. Currently the only one i can find is made by HP (found here http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/s...=EP323AA#ABA&aoid=32861&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN and seems to only be compatible with HP machines although I have heard otherwise. Interestingly though, when I look at the HP tuner I dont see where exactly I would plug in any devices exactly. I also have heard of AverMedia producing a expresscard TV Tuner but i have not yet found any info on that.
Lastly there is the option of forgoing the laptop capability of TV viewing and instead just buying the Samsung SyncMaster 940MW 19" LCD Monitor http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...0UJVO&coliid=I1OGN7OVN7MP34&v=glance&n=172282
which seems like a very nice display but would forgo the ability to record without spending huge amount of cash on a Tivo style device.
Wow, that's a lot of questions. I'd appreciate any enlightening that is available![]()

The TV image would be centered on the screen - there are black bars on either side since you have a widescreen display.
I have heard good things about ATI's TV Wonder USB 2.0, check the reviews. -
Looks like Terratec is preparing a new lineup of ExpressCard TV tuners (at least in Europe):
