My laptop is an HP Elitebook 8440p. I am trying to upgrade to USB 3.0 via the Expresscard 54 slot. I bought a flush Startech product. However, after installing the Renasas drivers and inserting the supplied USB power adaptor it isn't working with any of my Toshiba Alu 2S portable hard drives. I plug one of them in, Windows makes that sound (when it recognises new hardware). But the drive doesn't show up in Windows Explorer.
Do these expresscards work with portable HDDs. I ask because these type of drives obtain their power from the USB port inself?
Any thoughts? Windows device manager says that the expresscard USB 3.0 hub is working well.
