I's purchasing the Asus G53SX-RH71, after all my research i think its a great bang for my buck and i love its look, plus i can play skyrim on it

BUT, and this is a very large but.. I am a engineering college student and need a laptop that is a laptop and not a temperary mobile desktop. The battery last for only 1-3 hours! depending on usage.

my question is, are there companies that make larger laptop batteries. I don't care if its clunky and big and hangs off the back. i want it to last for double what it does now.

I was thinking of just purchasing a second battery, but that seems like a pain. Please help!!!

I wouldn't buy that laptop to take to school. It weighs almost 8 pounds. The battery it ships with is an 8 cell, so I dought they sell anything bigger.

If he needs horsepower, then weight is not a primary factor.
I'm not sure what that means, but it sounds like you had unrealistic expectations.

Absolutely, and you can start with Asus. They're typically the only ones that will guarantee the complete unit from damage due to defects in workmanship.

This should have been a part of your budget all along. Batteries have a tendency to fail at the most in opportune times. In fact, I highly recommend it for anyone that buys any mobile device. Laptops are no exception.

My laptop will rarely need to depend on the battery with no charger around, It's heavy but it will be in my room the majority of the time, i only take my current one to reviews where we need out laptops, other than that my campus has school computers EVERYWHERE, tho they aren't too great.

BUT if i'm in a long review or am somewhere that i can't charge my laptop i was hoping i could find a battery that is larger and just sticks out the back of the laptop more, i don't care about weight.

Does anyone actually make extended/larger laptop batteries? sort of like the old power packs for gameboys, but i don't want to haull around an extra battery, i want it attached.

There are other laptops that preform at the same level and are much more portable. Also remember that one of his requirements is being able to take it to class.

Sounds awesome, except Asus doesn't sell a larger capacity battery.

Wha? Out of the last 100 laptops I've owned, I only had maybe 1 failed battery. And, more than likely it was on a several year old laptop.

alright question revised. Does any company out there sell a larger/longer lasting batteries for laptops, specifically my laptop?

and i can take a heavy laptop to class. I know there are others that perform just as well and can last longer BUT usually not for the same price, at least nothing that i have seen.

Of course; and you can start with ebay. But be forewarned, they're reputations can sometimes be dubious, so caveat emptor.

Other than buying them first, there's no real way of telling the good ones from the bad ones. This is where the manufacturer's product has the greatest advantage.
Lucky you. But I hope you're not suggesting putting all you eggs in one basket become the standard?

Never buy a second battery unless you need to. Their max charge capacity will drop over time even when not used.

Trying to find the ultimate computer huh? Power yet the battery life of a chromebook? Try compensating and trying to find a 14-15in computer, best I can really tell you.

Probably because the stock battery is already fairly large(8 cell), and this laptop is meant to be a desktop replacement and occasionally taken places.

i know. which is why i wanna buy a new part to make it better. but i highly doubt its out there.

there are external batteries you can buy though arent there? I might have to look into that, i suppose they just plug into your charge port?

Which is why there are long term storage procedures available.

And when would you suggest he needs to buy a second battery, after the first one fails when he needs it most? I certainly hope you don't employ that attitude when it comes to your files.

What you're saying would make sense if laptop batteries failed frequently.
