I have my primary hdd divided into three partitions (system, windows, data). I tried shrinking the data volume which worked. I wanted to add the now unallocated portion to the windows drive but I couldn't do it with disk management and ease us.
So is it possible and How can I add the unallocated portion to the system drive?

Unless you left the unallocated space immediately after the C: partition - it won't be easy.

This is why I partition my HDD's to:

    C: 250GB
    D: 512GB
    E: Remainder of drive.

Then, I Shrink the C: drive partition to the size I really need it at (usually around 100GB) as this makes it the fastest possible. If/when I really need a larger C: partition - I can extend the partition up to 250GB (and shrink it again if I needed the space only temporarily...) limit.

However, if you did not follow this method - I would strongly recommend you start again from a clean install (even though there are programs that may or may not successfully 'slide' the unallocated space from the end of the drive to the middle of the drive to extend your C: partition. Depending on the amount of data you have; it may be faster to do a clean install (and know the system will be stable afterwards) than try to 'slide' the unallocated space to where you need it).

    Good luck.
