I will be running WINDOWS XP on my notebook since i am in university. But I really want to discover Linux. So i was asking myself if it is possible to use linux through an external HDD.

Basically, would I be able to Boot into LINUX, from a USB linked external HDD?
Would I have to buy a pre-made HDD, or would I be able to do so with a self-made external HDD.

    thx

Yes. Any HD would do it.
