Well the other day it was knocked off the desk when my brother was hoovering the floor, it was in the middle of moving files and because unplugged (when it hit the floor) our floor is made of concrete with a thin layer of carpet above.
PLEASE TELL ME I CAN FIX IT!
it has a lot of pictures on it that i didn't get time to backup!![]()
i can't get it replaced as i have taken it apart voiding the warrent plus the sticker was already messed up :S
And it is a SEAGATE HDD inside the shell, it has SATA data socket and power so i cannot use it in either of my computers as one only has IDE and the other only has SATA data socket but not power.

So, your Operating System does not even recognise that the device is plugged in? What does device manager say? Is the HD still spinning when you turn it on?
-
The HD is still spinning and i've tried it on 3 different computers, none of them detect it in the device manager or disk management.
-
maybe it became unallocated in the drop? i remember buying an external harddrive and it was unallocated, therefore not recognized.
-
what does that mean?
-
Unallocated means the file system has become corrupt. However, in that situation, the device should still show up in Device Manager as an unknown device or something.
I'm guessing that the enclosure itself is damaged. Try purchasing a cheap 3.5" SATA enclosure and putting your HD in it and see if that shows up on your computer. -
a what? lol linkage please
-
A hard drive enclosure. You need something that is 3.5", and supports a SATA HD. So, something like this would work:

Of course, you will be able to find something much cheaper (link above is for a relatively good quality enclosure from the UK), especially if you live in USA or something. -
-
ah yes good idea. i shall see if i can get one soon.
-
Cross you fingers and hope its not the HD
If you dont wanna buy another enclosure. Find a computer with SATA and see if it detects it on BIOS. Take it to a computer shop or friends house.. -
well my computer has a SATA/IDE HDD inside but only SATA datacable and IDE power so what i shall do is unplug one and put it in my enclosure and see if that is detected.
Btw is that bleach in ure avatar? -
new info, tried HDD from my dad's computer in the enclosure and it works :'(
i don't want to lose the data on this HDD :l -
a bump if i may..

Please re-explain your problem.
I think the reference to SATA data cable and IDE power has made everyone confused. Are we talking of laptop or desktop or external exclosure. If you don't have an enclosure with SATA connector then you need to get one. There are some enclosures like this one which support both IDE and SATA.
John -
my enclosure works fine, i tested it on another HDD from my desktop computer, the original HDD that was in the enclosure isn't detected..
sorry for the confusion. -

Well, if the enclosure is fine but the HDD dosn't work in it then the evidence points to the HDD having a terminal injury.
However, did you put the original HDD back into the enclosure and check that it still doesn't work? Does it spin up but not read the data? Does Device Manager report that the HDD is there - it should be able to read the model number?
John -
Yes i put the original one back in to test it and it still didn't work, it does spin but isn't shown in the disk management or device manager, i have tested it on 3 different computers.
2 Desktops and one notebook/laptop. -
i guess i'm buggered then because i'm only 15 and don't have 500 pounds or whatever it costs i have 15 pounds at the most..
External HDD isn't detected.
