Last night I purchased a 32" HDTV to use as an external monitor for my ASUS W90. Even using the HDMI port there is considerable lag time, to the point where it is basically unusable for gaming. The HDTV is 120hz with a 6.5ms response time. Do I need to go with an HDTV with a faster response time or is gaming just not doable with anything but an external pc monitor?

    Thanks for any expertise.

The one thing you can do is try to turn off any picture processing that your TV may do (check your manual and menu for any picture enhancement or anything like that). TVs will do picture processing and since they delay the video and sound the same amount watching TV doesn't really get affected by it. But gaming is. It's a fairly common problem with PS3 and XBox360's connecting to HDTVs

Compare your results of using the HDMI input with the component input - this will help you isolate what's causing the lag.

I tried everything with that 32" Insignia, same results. So I returned it and picked up the 32" 120hz Samsung. I just plugged it in and already notice a huge difference, the mouse/keyboard response is near immediate, and the picture is night and day better. I guess paying the extra $ is worth it.

    Now to try some gaming...
