    Hey all,

I recently got a maxtor III external hard drive for my laptop. I dont want it on me for naive reasons. I intend to leave the external hd ON with my laptop so I can listen to songs and watch videos on the external hd. So I am wondering if I leave it ON like my laptop and watch/listen videos/songs from external hard drive, will it have any problem?? Any ideas and recommendations are welcome. Thanks in advance.

As long as heat is not an issue which it should not when not using, the start up and shut down of the discs stress's as much or more than running all the time.

Its a hard drive, you have one in your laptop/desktop, you play music/movies off of it. If it doesn't overheat, it's perfectly fine.

Well I would turn it off when you switch your laptop off, but nothing should happen. If your going to use your HDD for backup as well, I wouldnt recommend leaving it on all the time.
