Hi guys,
Hope I'm putting this in the right forum...
Anyway, as you may have seen from the "What Notebook Should I Buy?" forum I'm looking to replace my ageing iBook G4 and good old Celeron desktop with a nice new laptop. So far, I think I'm going to opt for the XPS M1530.![]()
So, I need to move the essential items from these two computers (i.e. Music!), and rather than clutter up a new notebook (and potentially shell out more for a bigger hard drive), I thought it would make sense to purchase an external one.
Can anyone suggest a good, reasonably portable external hard drive? Been looking at the WD Passport, but I've heard it needs an extra cable to power it on certain machines.
Any and all input is much appreciated!

i use a simpletech hd from newegg. it's pretty small, looks good, has a fujitsu hd, came with a real handy synchronization software, and it's real sturdy.. been using it for a year bringing it everywhere with no problems (even dropped it twice).

WD passport shouldn't require extra powercord but the WD MyBook will.

Ugh... ghei.
I've just discovered that OSX cannot support the NTFS system, so there's no point in reformatting the external hard drive from FAT32 just yet.
Looks like I'll have to move everything from the Mac onto the drive, then onto the new laptop, then reformat the drive, then move it back onto the external...
Is this the only solution? -
I personally don't have much experience with OSX, but a google search brought up this link. Seems like a free and fairly easy solution. Good luck.
