    hey gang

I know this could be in the accesories section but I am interested in the hard drive its self.

I am planning on getting an external hard drive. I am in Japan but have access to Canadian parts when I get a visit from my family.

I was wondoring if I could buy a Hard drive in canada and toss it in a Japanese enclosure. The issue is the voltage difference.

    Cheers

Do enclosures/caddies have anything to do with voltage..?! I mean they are just supposed to be connected through the USB ports..!!

As long as the internal voltage is the same, it will be fine. If you have an AC adapter for the enclosure of any kind, the hard drive should work.

Hard drives are not country-specific afaik. DVD/BluRay drives usually are.

hard drives are the same - any hard drive from anywhere in the world should be ok. the only difference is in the actual enclosure power unit, which has a different plug for the wall outlet. since the enclosure is from japan, it should be ok.

Buy a Mad Dog enclosure -- you'll pay a little more but they use some of the best hardware so you your data is as safe as it can be on an external.
