What is it for?
Do you want a 2.5" over a 3.5" at the expense of significantly higher cost and reduced performance?
Do you expect to be powered by the bus, or do you plan on using AC connection? -
If it's to be portable, I'd suggest sticking with 5400RPM if at all possible. It's going to be slower, but it's also going to be less prone to failure, cooler, and draw less power. If you really need 7200RPM, then a 2.5" enclosure with a separate hard drive is your best, and almost only option. I'd suggest sticking with a Seagate hard drive, though, since they tend to run cool. Maybe a WD, but not Hitachi.
If you can stand 5400RPM then I'd be looking at a Buffalo or Apricorn drive. The things are solid, and run very cool. They both also have the benefit of having integrated cables.
If it's just going to be sitting on your desk, then look at Lacie, Buffalo, Apricorn, or even better, a NAS. You can find reviews and charts of NAS devices at smallnetbuilder.com. I like the looks of QNAP.
