I hope someone can help me. I have a Compaq nc6400 and I use it in a docking station. For the last few months, the external monitor goes to sleep when I close the screen on the notebook. It did not used to do this.

So when I reboot, I have to leave the screen open. After booting, I do a fn F4 to bring up the screen for either dual display or extended desktop. whichever I click on, it sometimes shrinks the screen size, but almost always will go to sleep if I close the screen.

Once in 20 reboots if I boot and leave it closed during the boot process it ends up giving me just the external monitor. I can detect no pattern to this. has anyone got an idea? I do not even think I want an extended desktop or a dual display. I just want the external monitor - Help!!

    Thanks
    Jack

Have you installed vista recently or so?

Your problem is exactly like mine was + alot of other peeps has had the same problem. Check my old thread out. It's a work-around, not a fix though.

You won't be able to tell the notebook to do anything when closing the lid when doing this work-around. It will shut the notebook-screen off when closing the lid like usual though and turn it back on as you open the lid again. But you can't set it for sleep, hibernate or something like that when closing the lid. So if you can live without that (i know i can :), then go ahead and manually install/update driver for the "volume manager" for the "ACPI lid" in device manager.

Thanks but this has nothing to do with my problem I do not run Vista and I want my lap top screen to be off and just watch the monitor. When I close the laptop, the monitor goes to sleep. I want to do what you have going on. I want the monitor to shut off.

Maybe you and your "peeps" don't know how to read.
