I am looking for an external optical drive for my thinkpad x60, and I came across two that look very good. The two actual drives all seem to have good reviews, but I can't find any info on the enclosures. They use a Li-ON rechargable battery to power the drive. Does anybody have any experience/info on these types of enclosures?

The Targus drives at TigerDirect don't need an external power supply. That is really neat. It probably used 2-USB slots, although it has a pass-through. Remember that you will most certainly find a similar product much, much cheaper on eBay. (around $65)

Hm, I am just wondering, is it possible to make your own portable CD/DVD drive? I have extra CDRW/DVD combo notebook drive.

Ya, all you need is an enclosure to put it in. One of my links is for just the enclosure. That same web site has more enclosures as well.

I have been to ebay, and I have found a couple good drives. However, I am still interested in the drive I am asking about. My laptop is for portability, not for any home use. Why not get a drive that powers itself from an internal battery and not the laptop? I am just wondering if anyone has every used one of these before I buy it. If I don't go with this I will buy the following one off ebay.
