I plan to buy 4 more GB in 1 dimm for my laptop (see my sig). And I wish to know which brands are good or the best. I know Corsair are good, for what I heard, but so far I only found 2x2GB not in a single dimm.
I live in Mexico so its kinda hard to find a good brand, a good price, and also that can ship to Mexico.
I want to know if Super Talent is a good or "ok" brand. Also what about the random dimms made with major brands chips.

wow thats expensive, then again.. ive no idea what RAM costs.
Here in Holland I never heard of that brand.. we usually buy Kingston/Corsair or GEIL chips. -
Corsair I'd say is the best, but it comes at a price. I'd probably even go as far to say that their RAM is a tad overpriced (their power supplies are pretty top notch as well).
Some other pretty reputable brands are OCZ and G.Skill. If you can get hold of a suitable set from either of them you should be fine. -
Crucial SODIMMs are good too...
they even have 8gb kits..4x2 -
I always buy whatever is cheapest in non-performance applications. In these cases it really doesn't matter what it is as long as it works. How can anyone say one brand is better than another when they all do the same job the same way?
-
ewiz is only $137 for the same samsung.
-
Ram is really not something that would be brand significant. In fact, I'd go as far as saying ram is ram! Buy whatever's cheapest. Just make double sure the numbers match.
-
You might not want to go to the cheapest for a $100+ ram?
-
-
RAM is RAM, as long as it has a warranty your good to go.
-
It bears repeating: do not worry yourself with the brand of RAM you buy, get what's cheapest at the capacity you want.
-
I agree RAM is basically a commodity and so any brand should do ok. One exeption is the warranty can be an indicator of better ram than others, since brands that give longer warranties generally do so because they have lower failure rates.
-
As others have said, RAM is RAM, for the most part. I've personally used various sticks of Kingston, G.Skill, Mushkin, Corsair, OCZ, Hynix, Hyundai, and Crucial, with no issues to speak of from any of them.
-
IMO , it doesn't matter which RAM u have.. Kingston RAM is not going to better than OEM RAM unless u overclock... just get any RAM as long as it has proper speed and compatiblity... and also see the warranty in case the RAM wants to die on u...
-
-
Warranty is somewhat important, but customer service for RAM? Sheesh >.>

These sticks were lifetime warranty and after being purchased many years ago and the DDR spec being all but dead, OCZ honored the warranty and replaced the DDR modules with brand new ones, no questions asked. -
Well I honestly have never had any problems with RMA'ing most stuff, regardless of company but yes, I do see the importance. However, most known brands are pretty competent in this domain from my experience.
It all comes down to priorities. I mean, what you speak of is nice, but I won't pay twice the premium for that peace of mind. For that price, I might as well just buy a new stick of RAM -
From my experiences:
- OCZ will take anything that has an OCZ sticker back, no questions asked. There have been documented cases where they issued refunds just because the owner was dissatisfied with the product, even after months of use.
- Corsair is annoying (they ask too many questions), but otherwise not bad. I guess they're the middle ground.
- Kingston will charge you for shipping both ways and will send you back your defective product (at your expense, of course) if they can't find anything immediately wrong with it. -
Are you saying that I can get a refund for my unused DDR and RAMBUS OCZ RAM?
Ok but seriously, I do understand the value of customer service on brands, don't get me wrong. However, the OP initially hinted about performance so most of us were just pointing out that performance differences in RAM are negligible and that the price difference can mostly be attributed on stuff like customer service as you pointed out. -
Corsair definately has some really good reputation there my friend! Nice choice!
-
I prefer samsung, crucial and kingston.
Extra RAM, what brand?
