I am thinking about either gettin a sager 5793 or a 9262.
Money is not really an issue right now.
I am debating whether to get a Quad Core or an Extreme. Are the extremes which are offered at Xotic or eurocom, quad core extreme's or dual's?
Which are more "future Proof"?
I plan on using the laptop to video edit, audio edit, and gaming

For gaming the extreme will be better than a quad core.
-
I need some information on this. I dont want to upgrade an extra $700 bucks for an extreme if its a total rip off and not worth it
-
So money is an issue?
-
Not an issue
But i dont want to pay 4k for a laptop. I am sticking with either of the two choices
-
I would personally recommend Quad Core, as it is more futureproof. Core2 Extreme will currently offers better performance, but when more multi-core optimised applications come out, Quad Core CPUs will increase in performance.

There's not much of a point to getting the Extreme.
Get the quad-core. GHz does not make much of a difference in games. I have a Q6600 in my desktop overclocked to 3.6GHz. Playing Crysis at 2.4GHz and playing Crysis at 3.6GHz is not very different, I have trouble telling the difference. The CPU is not the bottleneck, that's why. -
The quad core's can be overclocked?
-
Chaz has a desktop with his Q6600, and his motherboard is an OCing MONSTER. Laptops (generally) do not overclock well, if at all.
-
i gotcha
Also, I am most likely going to purchase 2gb of ram separately after i config from xotic, Should I go for the 667 DDR or 800 DDR. Will 800 make any noticeable difference? -
quad-cores is more "future proof" than extremes. Go with the quad and pair it with a the top-notch GPU...you're all set!!!
-
DDR2 800 might work, but in all honestly either speed is going to perform about the same.
-
-
Go with DDR2 800.
-
As many suggested, go with Quad core.. cheaper and more future-proof.

IMVHO neither are worth the money. I'd go high-end of the regular Core 2 Duos. The extra you pay for Extreme or Quad core in a laptop aren't worth the money, not by a long-shot.
-
Are the advantages of having either only for gamers and video editors?

, is what about considering the future of technology; do you think there is a reason to have any of the these processors if you're worried about advances in technology? Do you foresee any applications other than the two I mentioned that my require Extreme or Quad Core in the future? I'm NOT asking you to predict anything
, I'm was just wondering what your best guess is regarding this issue, if you care to go there.

Any game today runs decently on any dual core... and so buying an extreme C2D by paying over and above a quad core, makes no sense to me.... even if today's applications utilize it better, because the quad core (also being cheaper) will be far better for tomorrow's applications! I personally would do anything to get a mobile Quad Core CPU in a notebook
So go with the Q6600 or Q6700 IMO!
P.S. No prediction needed... tech will evolve and future applications will utilize more cores.. -

3D animation will work better on a quad core cpu because it can use all the cores
EDIT: and multitasking will be better on a quad
Extreme or Quad Core?
