I have a Toshiba Satellite A100 TA9. Last week (after the symptom of a few days' pink tinge) my screen went dark. Graphics and video output are fine; just no backlight.

After some research I figured I probably needed to replace my FL inverter. It arrived in the mail today, I installed it, but the issue persists.

Any ideas or advice? I've tried to check all the connections available to me in the area. As with my previous FL inverter, the screen is often lit (pink) for a few seconds on startup or wakeup but then I hear an audible fizzling (open case) and it fails.

I'm rapidly running out of ideas and options! Thanks in advance.

You have video output to an external monitor? Then I vote for a failing LCD.

    cheers ...

    Belated response:

The actual backlight bulb had died. I performed delicate surgery and soldering and replaced it. Miracle!

Yes, the problem is that oftentimes when the inverter goes, it takes the bulb with it, unfortunately.

Naw, the inverter was fine. (I reinserted the old one.)

It's definitely a nervewracking challenge when you have to peel off the tape that says DON'T TOUCH DON'T TOUCH DON'T TOUCH. ;)
