I bought an Amilo 1650G almost a year ago now, and things were going alright. However I noticed a 'slight' disparity between the processor speeds on my BIOS (AMD Athlon Mobile 64, 2.4GHZ) against the Windows XP System Info (AMD Athlon Mobile 64, 800Mhz). Any ideas on why Windows isn't picking up my full processing power, and how i change it to match the BIOS?

Are you sure that Windows isn't measuring the speed of the processor, when it has clocked itself down, because the load on it isn't alot. Practically all modern processors, except the Celeron M, will lower their clockspeed so that they don't get hot and they can conserve evergy. Also, use another program such as CPU-Z, to confirm the speed of the processor.

That's just AMD's "Cool n' Quiet" program running, similar to Intel's SpeedStep. Basically what Zero said. No worries, go ahead and download some CPU clocking utilities if you're not sure.

So I got CPU-Z up and running, to discover I do in-fact have 2.6GHz of AMD Athlon under the keyboard. I thought great, and even installed RM Clock as a second way of knowing my CPU speed. Both come back with the value of 2.6Ghz. However windows is still seeing only 800mhz in the system section, and i ran a 'scan hardware' option on my Knights of the Old Republic game, which said i'm only running 800mhz, causing the gameplay to be incredibly choppy (it requires 1ghz)
if i've genuinely got 2.6Ghz, is there anyway to reach that potential, since something seems to be limiting it.

Make sure that under Window's "Power Schemes", or any other power management programs you may be running, that the processor speed it set to dynamic, or under Power Schemes, "Portable/Laptop". This wway, the processor should be able to clock itself up to the full 2.6 GHz when a load is put onto it.

After doing that, it may be a good idea to just check and make sure that the processor clocks to that clockspeed. Run more than one processor intensive task, or something that you know should make the processor reach its full clockspeed.
