I didn't know where to put in the forum.
Definitely sad news for all gaming enthusiasts looking forward to the nearest future.

That's it, I'm deleting my Facebook account immediately. Eff this.
This just ruined my day.
Notch just cancelled Minecraft for Rift, many other Rift developers surely to follow his example.
Guess this means Carmack is going back to his old job at id. No way he's working for Facebook and reporting to that creep Zuckerberg.
I thought they had morals and were better than this but I guess the allure of quick easy money was too great to resist for Luckey & co.
I feel betrayed and I'm sure many other former Rift fans can echo this sentiment. Imagine the level of hurt among those who backed the Kickstarter campaign.
OCCULUS RIFT IS DEAD. IT'S OVER.
SOMEONE PINCH ME AND WAKE ME UP FROM THIS NIGHTMARE PLEASE. QQ
(I'm still holding onto a smidgen of hope that this is just some early, sick April Fool's joke.)
This is me upon hearing the news:
And here is Palmer Luckey:

Wow! Bad news indeed. I feel bad for all the folks who have invested serious time and money into supporting the rift. I know a lot of Star Citizen folks were extremely excited about it.
-
why is it not april 1st today? is this another fools day i haven't heard of or they just invented a new "25th March fools day"

Our last hope rests with Valve and our lord and savior GabeN. Then there's that Sony Project Morpheus thing which I could care less about as a PC gamer. Otherwise, VR is dead.
"Gabe Newell, you are my only hope!" -

Notch further expands on his decision to cancel Minecraft for the Rift and sever ties with Oculus: Virtual Reality is going to change the world|notch.net
His displeasure is clear, especially at the end:
That being said, I hope Notch doesn't turn into a hypocrite and eventually become a sell-out himself... -
this doesn't make sense, and whilst facebook might push the product to a public release much earlier it'll be nothing short of a bug luring, unfinished, unpolished/polished with ads product, its 6am in the morning and i have the feeling that today is gonna suck -
This almost seems like a class-action lawsuit pending for all the kickstarters. Like Notch said, he invested in the company to develop the tech, not so that they could sell off their company. I know with Kickstarter there's no guarantees, but there's also no reason to take people's money if your intent is to sell your company to the highest bidder. IMHO with this acquisition all Kickstarter funding should be returned to the people who donated, since they obviously have an unlimited amount of cash flow now. But I don't think Oculus is worth $2B. $200M maybe, but not $2B. That's a bold move by that twit Zuckerberg.
In the article:
"When Facebook first approached us about partnering, I was skeptical," 21-year-old Oculus Co-founder Palmer Luckey said, elaborating on today's news in a separate post on Reddit. "As I learned more about the company and its vision and spoke with [Zuckerberg], the partnership not only made sense but became the clear and obvious path to delivering virtual reality to everyone."

It's still like a scam though. Collecting money to fund a project that you are enlisting the backing of a single company for to buy you out, and no longer need funding. It's false pretense.
-
The least I see is the Kickstarter's policies are going to change. At least they should.

What can I say, happy I didn't pre purchase / fund kickstarter... Gutted! Can only imagine how people who put time money and effort feel...

Sounds extremely risky unless facebook have given them some solid proof on what they plan to do with the Oculus googles and that it is a sound strategy for their product.
I think Sony`s project "Morpheus", VR for PS4, might have scared them a bit after the praise from those who have tried them, and one can`t help but wonder if they decided to sell because of insecurity about future success all things considered. I don`t know, I just hope facebook doesn`t only have plans for social media with these googles. That said, we have Morpheus coming too. Those googles look a hell lot better than Oculus Rift anyway. What remains is adaption from the game developers.
Just recently, we got news that Project Cars will support Morpheus. http://www.videogamer.com/ps4/project_cars/news/project_cars_will_support_ps4s_project_morpheus.html -
and their share price promptly plummeted along with Notch pulling out of talks with Oculus VR

It seems more companies are entering the VR market so if Oculus dies not all is lost
-
Why exactly is this a bad thing? We have no idea what Facebook hopes to gain with Oculus. Facebook also has the resources to accelerate Oculus's development, and platforms for increasing exposure.

Am i the only one who thinks nothing will change and the Internet is just on a massive anti-facebook circlejerk?
