I'm seeing a Factory Recertified Seagate Momentus 5400.3 Hard drive for almost $40 less than the brand new option on the same drive.

The difference is a 180 day warranty versus a 5 year warranty.

How concerned should I be with this? Shouldn't a Factory Recertified drive have the same warranty s a new one?

Has anyone ever been able to warranty a Factory Recertified drive after the 180 day period in the event of a failure?

It might be worth it to pay $40 and a 5 year, than having to possibly buy a new harddrive if it happens to break.

Ive had a 120GB 7200rpm for approx 3 1/2 months in my current NB, and it failed about a month ago. HP replaced it though under thier warranty free of charge.

I would KILL for a good price on a 7200 RPM drive for my laptops.

Take me up on this offer.

Personally I have never had good luck with any recertified hard drives, be it Seagate, Western Digital, or Samsung. Most failed within a month, and my trusty Samsung died 2 times out of the refurbed box the first time it got power.

If you want to save a small amount on a computer purchase, don't do it on the hard drive.

Its not worth it, I would spend the extra money and get the harddrive with the warranty. The $40 difference is definitely worth the 5 years piece of mind from Seagate.
