Hi. I just purchased a 200 pin 512mb RAM for my IBM R40 (2722). I went to Compusa (for speed) and was going to get the Kingston PC2100 chip, but they didn't have one so I bought the Compusa brand Pc2100/Pc2700 chip.

I've slotted in into the second slot of my R40 (supposedly to work along side my existing PC 2100, 256 chip) and booted up. CPU-Z isn't detecting the new chip - its still saying the second slot is empty.

Can anyone tell me if this is a conflict issue or I've done something wrong? Or if there is anything else I can do...

    Thanks,

    Rc

Someone else had your sort of problem when he installed compusa branded ram. I advise you to return that ram and get something better.

Try the chip in slot one and see if it is recognized, leave slot two empty for the test.
If it works, try adding the smaller chip in slot two.
Sometimes the largest capacity chip must be in the first slot.
