So I bought 16gb ram few days from amazon and recently bought 32gb ram as well from amazon as I was thinking using 32gb ram is better for futureproof.
When I just opened both of those packages, well not the package but just the envelope so it still has the packaging
It shows on one end of the ram with these addresses
Both show Germany, Idaho and Singapore as 3 addresses on the front of the package.
Now on the back of it...
The 16gb with two 8gb sticks show Product of Malaysia
The 32gb with two 16gb sticks show Assembled in Mexico
Both have a ton of numbers on it etc.
The thing that confuses me is Assembled in Mexico? They have crucial ram made in Mexico? Is there any chance it is counterfeit? Note i received both packages in 2 separate packages as i got the 16gb earlier but didn't open the envelope for the package until now. So if the 32gb ram showed product of malaysia... i wouldn't think any of it.
Thoughts? Are there fake ram out there? I bought it off amazon.com and shipped from amazon and not a 3rd party.
The packaging doesn't look opened but then again Im sure someone could fix it up very easily?

@Drew1 Did you try it?
It doesn't matter where it's made. Check whether it works fine, or not. I suggest running Prime95 Blend test for at least 10 minutes, watch your CPU temps and stop the test if it gets too hot since the test stresses not only RAM but CPU as well.tilleroftheearth likes this. -
No, I didn't open any of the packaging. My plan was originally just open the 32gb ram and put it in my laptop... then return the 16gb ram as I wasn't going to open it up.
But when I saw the 32gb ram shown the words in the packaging... Assembled in Mexico... that got me concerned. -

@Drew1
1. you don't determine if RAM is fake by looking at place of assembly. assembly of RAM modules is not the same as manufacturing of RAM chips, it can be done pretty much anywhere.
2. even if RAM isn't genuine, it might work the same as genuine.
Bottom line, you need to make sure the RAM you bought is correct capacity, and that it works as intended. That's it. Just plug it in and run Prime95. -
Hey. Okay. Well its just i saw assembled in Mexico which threw me off. If both showed malaysia, i wouldn't be concerned.
Is the prime 95 necessary to determine if its legit or not? What does that exactly do?
But no way i could check serial number if legit or not on crucial site?
When you buy new ssd or memory, you use amazon right? Someone told me you could actually buy directly from crucial and not have to worry about things like this. I had no idea crucial sold ram directly. -

So is there any country printed in label that would concern you? If it said made in china or assembled in china, that would be concern? But the Malaysia one feels legit as well right?
Well i wouldnt touch ram on ebay since 3rd party seller. Well i buy everything on amazon but this concerned me. -

I should note that if one fakes a product, putting anything out of the ordinary on the box or the item itself is outright stupid, they'll go for the most common option unless they're complete idiots.
You can read RAM info with CPU-Z, and compare it with what is written on the modules themselves and in the listing you bought the RAM from, if you are still concerned. Pay particular attention to RAM timings.Last edited: Oct 8, 2020 -
Okay i installed the ram... seems to work.
