Is there a way to have better control of the fan on a Samsung NP355VC laptop? I've tried all the usual suspects: speedfan, amd overdrive, hwinfo, etc. Seems like none of them recognize the chip that controls the fan.

Are there any BIOS updates for your computer? Maybe with updated fan profiles.

I found this software Notebook fan control on a German site ( [Vorstellung] NoteBook FanControl (NBFC) - ComputerBase Forum), which claims to be able to control most laptops. You need to know your EC registers for it to work. There is a link in there to some software that can read and write the EC registers called: RW utility: http://rweverything.myweb.hinet.net/index.htm

Basically you need to read the EC registers with this utility, make your fan turn on using prime95 and see which 2 registers change (current fan speed, and target speed) as the fan turns on. Then update the config file with these 2 registers. I tried it but was unable to determine the 2 registers that changed. I was able to find the register that showed the temperature however. The RW utility also is able to dump the DSDT table as well. Anyway, anyone have any experience with this utility?
