Hey guys
recently i upgraded my cpu(T2390 to T5800).
After some RAM issues i noticed that my fan is constantly on. Once it goes loud it never stops again regardless the temperature.
For example when windows boots my fan speed is normal. Then if i run any demanding program and the temperature rises my fan speed goes high but after that when the temperature goes down again my fan speed stays as high as with high temperature. It's really annoying...
Also while running CPUID hardware monitor it gives me high temps at TZ0 and TZ5. I think it's a false reading or something to do with my sensors because this temp always stays the same. Take a look at the screenshot
Thanks
Edit: What are these TZ5 & TZ0 anyway?

I really don't see the problem unless its an unusually hight RPM? My fan runs all time but the RPMs vary depending on load. I think most people would recommend cleaning the vents.
You should also know that I've noticed my fan will run faster if its on a particular surface. I'm not really sure if it conducts heat or what. it is a flat hard surface. I don't use this surface very often so it's not really an issue. -
shot00, what laptop do you have? Do you have the latest BIOS installed?
-
My bios is the latest Compaq supplied (68PVU Ver.F.0B).
The only option in bios about fans is an option 'fan always on while on AC power'. I did change it but same problems....
Does anybody know what are these thermal zones(TZ5,TZ0)? Are they sensors?
Where exactly? In the cpu? In the chipset?
Thanks -

When you changed your CPU what kinda thermal paste did you use and did you properly install the cpu and thermal paste and cooling unit? That kinda excessive fan running could be a possible problem? Is there any obstruction to the air flow? I think that is kinda high but I also own a hp dv4 with t7500 and dv with t8100 and I don't recall temperatures hitting those numbers but I will double check with my laptops to see for comparison.
ok back...
I did the check on my dell 1525 T8100 and the reading about about
Value is ~5 less
Min is ~6 less
Max is ~17 less
I would say you should check your thermal paste you used to see if it is seated properly or properly applied. The Max is quite a bit more then mine and that is kinda high I think. Only thing I can say is that if someone else has the same T5800 and could post a reading that would help to see if those are same or not same reading? -
You can actually set it up using speedfan or bios.

But i don't think my problem is cpu related. Of course something has to do with my new cpu bacause this problem occured while upgrade into it.
I remember having even higher temps with my old T2390 but my fan speed was normal. Right now we are talking my cpu has 42 C and even my neigbors can listen my fan spinAbou the thermal paste i used the same for my two upgrades so far. It isn't artic silver but can do the job.
Also i noticed that SOMETIMES while change from windows managment power settings the cooling policy from active to passive or reverse it did slowed down the fan speed. I'm so confused ff...
Something has to do with the TZ0 & TZ5- i'm sure. -
I'd doubt it has anything to do with your scenario but I once had an issue with overheating and fan always On and noticed someone had changed the advanced power settings in windows so that the minimum processor state on ac power was always 100%.

Since I could never find the cause, I still believe Cornish Pixies had something to do with it?
Incidentally, what programs are running when this situation occurs? -
Haha darn those Cornish pixies,
-
Well, I know that is set in the High Performance power profile by default if any of you were using it.
Fan always on
