Hi guys, I have this problem: I just bought a splendid ASUS UX31A and I noticed that the fan is awfully noisy. It starts for no particular problem almost immediately, even if I don't have multiple tasks opened and even if the laptop stays unused. It starts then stops, then starts again and is really annoying.
Any of you knows what's the solve of the problem?
Thanks!

Most you can do is check the temperatures of the notebook and see if anything is overheating, otherwise it's probably just the fan and heatsink design that makes it noisy, which you won't be able to do anything about (I thought Asus weren't the quietest machines in the first place).
If just the power cycling of the fan is bothering you, see if you can find a "Fan always on" option in the bios and enable that, and with any luck it'll run constantly at its lowest speed, which would be quieter than it cycling on and off just to cool a certain component down (as to which temperatures this happens depends on who makes it, my HDX does the same thing if either cpu or gpu hits 60c, and thus I just have it always turned on and it's barely audible in a quiet room).
Either all of that, or the fan itself is bad. In which case return it; but I'd try the above first. -
This can be an option, to turn it on constantly, but I'm not sure it'll not be bothering also. No, the laptop is not overheating. Now I see there is a serious problem with ux31a's fans. many have the same problem (but not everybody). I really don't understand why asus is not solving it - this model is not cheap at all. I read about updating bios. Do you think it can be a solution?
Thanks for your answer, Kuu. -
I have yesterday updated Bios with version 216, it was succesfull, but it cant enter Bios by pressing F2, F9 recovery doesnt work too. Im nervous how can I repair my Bios. About fan issue, i used it yesterday for an half a hour and it was silent, i heard a fan silently spinning, CPU temperature was between 40 and 50, I hadnt much time to try my Asus, but today after work I will test more. And about Bios i tried it flash one more time but Winflash said Im trying to flash an older version, but it was the same 216.

Hello lubikem, I have also the 216 BIOS (since at least 8 weeks) the BIOS settings can be accessed by F2 OR the esc key. You may be having a problem if you have win8 installed, due to the UEFI , Win8 does not do a real power off, it does a hybrid power down and that is why the F2 does not work. Pease google about the win8 and UEFI BIOS special power down options to get to the bios. Something with holding down the shift while powering down.
Also note that the fan problem was solved for me after BIOS216 AND setting the optimised defaults in the BIOS.
