If there is a choice between a faster drive (7200 rmp instead of 5400 rmp) or an additional GB of memory (which brings the total system memory to be 2GB), which option should I choose for my notebook? I tend to open multiple applications, so having more memory would help. But I understand that I/O bottleneck is also a factor in slowing down the system response. I use the system mainly for email, internet, MS Office, photo editing, etc.

    Thanks.

    5400 RPM is sufficient.

It's best to upgrade RAM from a 3rd party manufacturer as opposed to configuring on your machine.

I would say get RAM first, considering that you multitask and memory is more of a premium than HD speed which won't be noticed as much.

I agree memory would be a better upgrade. IF you do much video editing or gaming and other hard drive intensive work then the upgrade to 7200RPM would be worth it.
