Ok, I'll try to explain my situation.
I'm a developer and constantly code between 2 computers. A Dell 6410 and a Asus G73JH. My problem is I develop in virtual environments (VMWare, Virtual Box etc) so my images can reach 20-30gb each. Right now I am using an eternal hard drive, but being spoiled by a new SSD I got for my G73, I decided to look for a better way to run my dev images.
So that brings me to the question, whats the fastest portable media I can pop in both of these. Neither has USB, the dell has a pcmcia slot, both have estat slots.
Right now, I'm trying to find a 128GB esata thumb drive, but seems esata thumb drives never cought on enough for someone to make a 128GB one.
So whats you ideas to get SSD performance, or at least better than external USB2 performance from this?
Thanks!
EDIT: On second notice, the G73 doesn't have a esata...

You could get an eSATA or USB 3.0 enclosure and put an SSD in it, but eSATA is limited to SATA I (150 Gbps). If you have a lot of large files then a traditional hard drive may come close to saturating that bus as it is.
Thumb drives are slower than hard drives anyhow. -
I dont have large file transfers, but neither have USB 3.0 slots.

Gigabit ethernet transfers will be able to transfer at up to 125 MB/s. Expect to see perhaps around 80 MB/s. Consider something that can utilize ethernet.
The other alternative is eSATA enclosure like a Rocketfish AHD-25. You can find lots of them on ebay for $10-$12 shipped. -

G73JH has no facility to plug in anything better than USB 2.0. So your choices to get a data stream into it are:
1. use a network to transfer data
2. remove the sata optical drives on both systems and then swap in a generic 9.5mm sata-sata optical bay caddy from newmodeus. The G73JH has a 12.7mm tall drive but a 9.5mm caddy used in a E6410 would work in it.
3. Use the G73JH's additional drive bay to hang a loose sata-sata or sata-esata lead for external connection as discussed.
