Hi. I have a Lenovo T500 with a GM45 chipset. Just wondering what the fastest cpu that I can run. I believe it is the X9100. Will there be something faster or is that going to be the last c2d release until notebooks adopt i7? I currently have the P8600 which should be ok until the next year or two before upgrading processor.

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
For all "normal" computers, it is now the T9600 or T9800 if you can find it. If your machine has the power circuitry and thermal solution to handle 44W or 45W processors, you can go up to the X9100 or QX9300 as well.
EDIT: I don't think the T500 can take 44W or 45W processors, but you should wait for someone with a T500 to be sure. -
hmm. I guess I will have to be patient to see. I know lenovo offers X9100 as a cpu option for their W series but not the T series.

There was announced a 35w, 3.06Ghz T9900, scheduled for the Spring, but I was told that it's been canceled. The T9800 is an amazing processor, trust me.
To answer your question, yes, I do believe that we of the GM45 family have seen our last processor refresh. I don't see Intel fitting anymorepower into the 35w threshold. -

T9900 @ 3.06ghz is cancelled? noooooo
It will be interesting to see what i7 core will be able to offer for laptops. They cant make it power hungry so thats a huge limitation. I will probably end up getting the T9800 instead of the X9100 just because it will be a bit more forgiving with battery life. -

Hey Kevin. Just out of curiousity, where did you buy your cpu? Did it come with that customized option? I am having a bit of difficulty locating the T9800 chip other than ebay's infamous ES chips.
What is the street price on the T9800? I wonder what the performance difference is from a P8600 (2.4ghz 3mb L2) vs T9800 (2.93 6mb L2).
I was in the exact same spot 6years ago when I had my Centrino system. My system came with a 1.4 centrino chip which I later upgraded to a 2.0ghz chip which was quite a bit quicker. -
Whats next intel a t10000?

I think our upgrade path is over.
