Hi all,
I am looking for the fastest possible, yet portable, external hard drive solution.
Definition of fastest: High through-put, but great access times
Definition of portable: Cannot be bigger than 2.5" drive and must be powered by the laptop
Here is the setup I have in mind
Addonics - Ruby ExDrive (2.5" enclosure eSata - Sata)
Addonics - 2 Port eSATA ExpressCard 34
Western Digital 320GB 2.5" Hard Drive Scorpio Black SATAII 7200rpm 16MB Cache
Comments?

If you want the fastest 2.5" drive you should go for the Hitachi 7K320. Not that there's much difference with the WD, but the Hitachi is a bit faster. See my sig.

My question with eSATA has always been whether it is self-powered. As far as I know, eSATA is basically just SATA so it doesn't have power in the cable. So where does it get it's power from?
Having to carry and separate power brick or having to connect yet another cable to USB for power doesn't seem very portable. -
Phil, thank you for the suggestion, I will read the thread you pointed out thoroughly.
ltcommander, most external 2.5" eSata enclosures give you the option to power your driver either through the USB port (which is what I want to do) or through an external source (i.e. use a power block, which sucks having to carry around). This is the only reason why I am not considering a 3.5" external eSata drive (which are otherwise faster), it is a must that the drive is self-powered. -
