I'm helping a friend and he got the bsod. Im pretty sure its an hard drive issue but im not real sure what to do. Here is the error:

    UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

    Technical Information:
    ***STOP: 0x000000ED (0x82308E30, 0xC0000006, Ox00000000, 0x00000000)

I had him check to make sure all the connections are nice and tight and plugged in. Anyone know what he should do to fix it?

Is it a consistent BSOD or did it just appear once.

Sounds like the hard drive could be dying (potentially) I'd backup the system ASAP (if you can boot) and then move on from there.

I agree with Arla's assessment. Sounds a lot like what happened to me when my HD started to die.

Heh... harddrive is probably dead. If it shows up in BIOS there is a chance it can be backed up. If it doesn't show up in BIOS you're out of luck.

If me, i will look for a 2.5" adatper to convert to 3.5", connect it to motherboard and let it detect the hard drive. After booting up to Windows, let it recognize the hard drive and backup the data.
