Greetings - a lot of people where I work use Dell M90's basically as desktops - they are on a shelf under their workplace and stay on for weeks and months with the LCD's closed. Two users complained of graphics problems and I have checked both systems. Both show a cross-hatched pattern - mostly white and blue - all over the LCD (both have Nvidia FX2500M graphics). I connected both to external monitors and both had the same problem. Hopefully these are still under warranty. Has anyone else seen this kind of behavior and is this one of the ways the faulty Nvidia cards behave? TIA

The nVidia Quadro FX2500M is not affected by the problems the nVidia 8 series cards had. The FX2500M is based on the G71 core if I remember correctly, and does not have the leakage problem the geforce 8400, 8600 had.

The FX2500M does use a lot of power and does get very hot, so that is probably the main reason for graphics failure.

Download i8kfangui on the remaining Dell M90's and use the software to force the fans to a higher speed, so that the graphics card does not get too hot.

The cooler running temperature from the fans running faster will increase the lifespan of your graphics card.

    I think FX2500M is based on G71GLM ? (=Go 7900 GTX)

Right you are the G71 is what the FX2500M is based on.

Thank-you both for your quick replies; are you aware of any way to possibly fix the cross-hatched pattern on both systems? This is a long shot, but maybe upgrade the video BIOS? Once these two systems are turned over to the hardware contractor we may not see them for several months and I would like to avoid that. Thanks again...

If you could post an image of what the screen looks like we may be able to help.

If the card is artifacting than the video card needs to be replaced.
But if it is a very subtle problem, which looks like its just a big repetition, than it may just be the cable on the back of the LCD coming loose. (this can be fixed in less than an hour of time.)

I've noticed a fair share of M90's turn up with g-card problems.
